Mobil Arma 798 Corrosion Protection | Wire Rope Lubricant South Africa
Mobilarma™ 798 — Premium Wire Rope Lubricant & Rust Preventive
Mobilarma™ 798 is ExxonMobil's premium performance wire rope lubricant and rust preventive — engineered for the lubrication and corrosion protection of wire ropes in marine, offshore, mining, construction and industrial applications. It forms a grease-like, self-healing film that penetrates deeply between rope strands, providing outstanding protection against salt spray, moisture-laden atmospheres and mild acids encountered in the most demanding marine and offshore environments.
Supplied through Orbit Industrial as an authorised Mobil distributor. Available by request for quote only — not available for direct checkout.

Product Data Sheet
How Mobilarma 798 Works
Mobilarma 798 penetrates between the strands of wire rope and impregnates the rope core — lubricating the internal contact points between strands and wires where fretting wear and corrosion initiate. The product's excellent water-displacing properties remove moisture from strand interstices on contact, replacing it with a thin, tenacious, grease-like film that remains in place under the severe centrifugal and shock loading conditions experienced in marine crane, anchor handling and lifting operations. The film is self-healing — minor damage from mechanical contact is automatically repaired — and does not chip, crack or become brittle across the full temperature range encountered at sea.
Features & Benefits
| Feature | Advantage & Operational Benefit |
|---|---|
| Excellent rust and corrosion protection against salt spray | Protects marine crane wire ropes, AHTS anchor handling cables, mooring ropes and offshore lifting equipment from the accelerated corrosion caused by sustained exposure to seawater spray and salt-laden coastal atmospheres |
| Outstanding water displacing properties | Actively displaces water from strand interstices — preventing the electrolytic corrosion that initiates wire breaks in ropes continuously wetted by seawater spray |
| Deep strand penetration | Lubricates internal strand-to-strand and wire-to-wire contact points where fretting wear initiates — extending rope service life and reducing the frequency of costly rope replacements |
| Self-healing film | Minor film damage from rope cycling, sheave contact and mechanical loading is automatically repaired — maintaining continuous protection throughout the service life of the rope without reapplication after every operation |
| Pliable at -35°C — will not drip at 60°C | Maintains consistent protective film integrity across the full temperature range encountered in marine and offshore environments — from cold-weather port operations to sustained high-temperature deck service in tropical waters |
| Resists throw-off in high-speed service | Stays on the rope during dynamic operations — crane luffing, anchor handling, winch operations — without throw-off contaminating deck surfaces or requiring frequent reapplication |
| Not tacky or stringy | Easy to handle and apply — operators can work with treated rope without excessive contamination of hands, equipment and deck surfaces |
| Protection against mild acids and corrosive fumes | Protects wire ropes in industrial and offshore environments where exposure to acidic atmospheres, chemical vapours or exhaust gases accelerates corrosion of unprotected steel wire |
| Compatible with rope core impregnating materials | Can be applied to ropes already treated with factory-applied core lubricants without compatibility issues — suitable for use throughout the operational life of new ropes from commissioning |
| Easy application — economical to use | Effective thin-film coverage minimises product consumption per metre of rope treated — reducing the cost and frequency of wire rope lubrication programmes |
